
The "Gran Lucano" pork supply chain
Gran Lucano is the first certified supply chain in central and southern Italy for the production of high-quality pork. Every day, thanks to the constant commitment of all our partners and staff, we bring an excellent, safe and sustainable product to consumers' dinner tables. We stand out for our high quality standards throughout the supply chain, from the moment the pigs are born to the final product. We implement strict health and biosecurity protocols on our farms, as well as correct stocking densities, in order to significantly reduce the use of antibiotics. In some cases, we raise pigs without antibiotics after weaning, which demonstrates our commitment to producing healthy and natural meat.
Animal welfare and nutrition
Animal welfare on our farms has always been a priority for us. We respect the physiological needs of our pigs, ensuring they have a healthy, comfortable and natural environment in which to grow in a balanced and stress-free way. Over time, we have obtained numerous voluntary certifications, recognised both nationally and internationally, to offer the best guarantees on our management and production systems. We take great care to ensure proper nutrition, making use of food industry by-products that would otherwise be discarded and using plant-based ingredients sourced from the Basilicata and Puglia regions. Furthermore, in our own feed mill, we only produce feed that meets the quality standards we have set for ourselves.

Sustainability and the environment
We aim to reduce the environmental impact of our production sites and all aspects related to the transport by choosing local suppliers and helping to support the agricultural economies of the Lucania and Apulia regions. We promote the responsible use of natural resources, including through the implementation of solar power generation systems.

Our organic farms comply with European directives and Italian legislation and are monitored by a control agency authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Pigs raised using organic methods are reared in large open spaces where they can move freely without being confined to cages. They graze on grass and fodder for a healthy and varied diet and are not treated with antibiotics, but cared for exclusively using natural methods. Another aspect that sets organic farming apart is the long lactation period. Pigs are nursed by their mothers until weaning, a period that lasts twice as long as in traditional farming. This approach promotes healthy and natural growth, which is also reflected in the quality of the meat.

Organic pork is highly nutritious, easy to digest, and raised to the highest standards of quality. Organic farming means respecting the land and the animals, lowering environmental impact through measures such as the use of natural bedding for our pigs, which helps reduce pollution, while their manure is transformed into humus to enrich the soil in a completely natural way.
